This Weeks Scripture

Leviticus 10: 9-11
*To drink or not to drink*

9) Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: 10) And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; 11) And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.

I'm amazed at the number of Christians who drink alcohol these days and say its not wrong, guess they didn't read this scripture. Or maybe they haven't read Proverbs 20:1 which says, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." Did you hear that my drinking Christian, its not wise! Yet some Christians will always make excuses for their drinking. Well, they say, I only drink socially, or I just drink a little wine for my stomach because the Bible tells me to, or the one that most annoys me, well Jesus drank wine. Let me just say that there was alcoholic wine and non-alcoholic wine in the days of Jesus, and you can't prove to me that Jesus consumed alcohol, I don't believe it. He wouldn't command preachers and bishops and priests to not drink but then do it himself.  Notice in Leviticus these instructions were being given to Aaron, a priest about drinking in the temple, but the pentalty was death. But please notice verses 10 and 11. Verse 10 says its to put a difference between holy and unholy. Thats exactly why Christians shouldn't drink, to seperate us from what the lost unsaved world is doing. You say, well I only have a beer every now and then. But what kind of witness is it when your buying that beer and a kid from your church sees you? What kind of message are you sending? Its time Christians start acting like Christians and stop acting like the lost. We also need to stop using the excuse of nobody's perfect, thats not a good excuse. And in verse 11 it says so that they might teach the children of Israel. Folks God is trying to teach us how to live our lives as Christians, if only we would read His Word, then apply it. I have never seen anything good come from drinking alcohol. I lost my dad when I was 14 years old because of alcohol. He died at 35 years old from cirrhosis of the liver. When I was 13 he threatened to kill me and my entire family, fortunately God was watching over us.

If you are a Christian who drinks, just think for a moment the damage you are doing to your testimony and to the kingdom of God, is it worth it?
